Medical coding El Paso Every day, first responders face challenging and dangerous situations in the name of keeping us all safe. October 28th is National First Responders Day. Established by the United States Congress in 2017, this day honors the heroic men and women who put their lives on the line every day for their fellow American citizens.

Standing on the frontlines to face emergency situations, first responders including police officers, firefighters, paramedics/EMTs, nurses, and doctors, as well as military service members, courageously protect and serve others. They care for people in the community, even as they risk their own health and safety. They are committed to helping others and saving lives every day, especially during urgent situations like natural disasters (e.g. forest fires, hurricanes, etc.), terrorist threats and attacks, and health pandemics. They run towards danger rather than away from it, because their main concern is public safety rather than personal safety.

In the United States, there are several million first responders who respond to public crises when required to do so. They support their communities bravely and selflessly, sacrificing time with family and friends to do their jobs; the impact on their personal relationships is often extraordinarily difficult. Moreover, they face extreme levels of mental and emotional stress as they deal with traumatic and sometimes dire situations. Their work takes a major toll on their personal lives, a sacrifice most of us take for granted. So, showing appreciation for first responders is vitally important.

“What I’ve noticed is not only in the military, but in the first responders community, that when you reach out your hand to help one of them, they almost always grab your hand with only one of theirs, because they’re using their other hand to reach behind them and pull up somebody else with them.”

~ Taya Kyle, Military and First Responder Family Advocate

Medical coding El Paso Having the opportunity to thank first responders for their selflessness and dedication to their communities is personally gratifying. More important, though, is that our gratitude is indispensable when it comes to keeping up the morale of these brave men and women. Celebrating the courage, commitment, selflessness, and sacrifice of the people who watch over us all in law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical service, and other sectors of public service including the military on National First Responders Day and all year long allows us the opportunity to show our appreciation for them and the vital work they do.
