3 Important Health and Safety Tips for Summer – Health Coding services by Quick Claimers

Americans everywhere waited for annual Fourth of July traditions and festivities after many cancellations during the pandemic year. As July 4, 2021 came into view, many were more focused than ever on the health and wellness of their friends and family—they were concerned about celebrating American liberty as safely as possible. But these concerns are important for all summer gatherings. Read on for some healthy and safety tips to consider as you gather with others this summer.

Tip #1: Remember Your Sun Protection

Many people enjoy spending time outside in the sunshine during the summer. Whether they head to the beach or pool, go hiking, or just spend time at home in their yards, it is important for them to make sure they protect themselves from overexposure to the sun. Applying broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher throughout the day is helpful for limiting exposure, as well as spending time in the shade helps for avoiding sunburns. Although the health benefits of sunlight includes getting Vitamin D naturally and boosting one’s mood, it is necessary to protect skin and eyes from prolonged exposure—too much of a good thing can turn into a bad thing. Also note that overexposure can occur on cloudy or overcast days, too—the muted sunlight can be deceiving, but is still just as damaging—so wearing sunscreen and taking breaks in the shade is key.

Tip #2: Hydration is Key

When people go outside, especially if they engage in physical activity, during the summer, it is critical to remember to drink water before, during, and after spending time outdoors. Most people have heard that eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day is enough; but when temperatures rise, the need for more hydration increases in order to replace the water lost throughout each day. How should people address this? It is important to drink plenty of water and stay away from caffeinated and sugary drinks that can dehydrate you. And keeping plenty of fresh fruit on hand can help, too: fruit is packed with the vitamins, fiber, and water that will keep you healthy and hydrated.

Tip #3: Healthy Eating Helps

To make sure your food doesn’t weigh them down this summer, people should make sure healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables are readily available, as well as lighter meals; making salads and lighter side dishes to go with main courses can help to balance the menus. During warmer weather, many choose to eat meals outdoors, too. They should understand that bacteria growth can contaminate foods if they are left out in the heat; and it is vital to serve and eat hot foods kept hot and cold foods kept cold.
